Pigmentation

Pigmentation is a common condition characterised by small areas of discolouration or unevenness appearing on the skin. It usually occurs on the face, neck, décolletage, shoulders and hands – areas that have been overexposed to the sun, causing an excess production of melanin. Other causes include trauma, injury or hormonal changes, for example pregnancy or changes in contraceptive use. Freckles, sun spots and age spots are all types of pigmentation or hyperpigmentation.

Pigmentation is usually harmless and is very common in people over 40, but many patients come to us for treatment in their 30’s and 40’s for cosmetic reasons.

Based on your symptoms and skin type, we will develop an individually tailored treatment programme for you, designed to help reduce areas of pigmentation, even your skin tone and restore it to its smooth, natural-looking best.

This may include use of the award-winning Obagi Skincare range, designed by a US dermatologist to treat pigmentation on skin of all colours, as well as body peels, facial peels, Harmony IPL  and ‘cosmeceutical’ treatments. On-going review and careful management are important elements of any pigmentation treatment programme with results showing from 6 weeks.
